GLASBURY VICARAGE

HOME

The original Glasbury Vicarage was sold and a new 5 bedroom house in The Birches was purchased, many Parishioners wrote and said that they had seen it being built and it was a poorly constructed house.  Now the scaffolding is going up as water is pouring into the master bedroom and causing damp problems - not bad for a low maintenance house!!

WORK COMPLETED - WHOOPS, IT'S RAINING AND WATER IS STILL COMING IN AND RUNNING DOWN THE WALL!

Low maintenance Vicarage - because water is pouring in, major works are being undertaken which will be followed by internal decoration.

Obviously missed in the survey of the property before purchase although many Parishioners raised the poor quality of the build before purchase but the warnings went unheeded!

Health & Safety, open ladder left by builders over the weekend whereby anyone can climb easily onto the roof!

Reported to Church in Wales but nothing done!

Just some minor works on a relatively new house

Damp is spreading as the rain comes in

A £2,000 discount meant that the drive was not finished by tarmac, so the only drive on the estate to boast of its own flora and fauna system.

The double garage was supposed to be altered to make an office - it is still a garage!

Because the drive was not finished, the step was excessive, so a line of paving slabs were added to save tarmacing the drive!

The flood defences mean that you can have a good view of passing traffic and pedestrians from the garden and kitchen window.

The weather has been windy, so the gate waits and waits to be repaired.  Now repaired, whoops, it has fallen off again!!

New oil tank after the original was leaning so badly, so now there is a large gap in the fence and the shed roof that blew off failed to block the hole.

Decking was replaced after pressure from the local authority because it was so dangerous.

Shed roof back on now - hole in fence is repaired.

The Vicarage is fitted with a 'COMBI BOILER' which manages to break down at least three to four times a year.  Brilliant thing, while running a bath you can have dinner as the water has to run slowly so that the temperature does not drop.  Showering, interesting, just keep increasing the temperature on the tap so that you can feel comfortable.

Interesting facts about COMBI BOILERS

  • During power cuts - no HOT WATER as there is no hot water tank.
  • Airing cupboard - only heated when central heating running as there has to be a radiator in there
  • Summer time - no hot water tank, so no immersion heater so you have to run the boiler all the time - good for the environment as it is oil and not too cheap either!
  • When the Water Company shuts the main down for maintenance (fairly irregular), then you have no hot or cold water as there are no storage tanks MEANS - toilet flushing impossible, washing impossible, cooking impossible!

They are great things as they get you to practice, time management, major incident planning and implementation, field craft, and weight lifting.

Because the house did not comply with Building Regulations a ventilation shaft was constructed right down the hallway from the internal toilet.

This is where the toilet should have been with an outside window - space for brooms and a nice hole in the floor.
